The best place to start is to watch the TV channels and go to their websites. Look around to see if similar products are shown and sold on the channels. View at different times of day, including overnight. The websites usually give contact information. Make a call to find out who buys your product category. In some cases, one buyer buys all DR products.

  •    Once you know who you need to contact, write a letter of introduction. Keep it short and to the point. Describe your product, emphasizing its benefits and the problems it solves. This is a successful DR product, mention the approximate retail price, and give the present selling history of your product. Build it up-show them your success!

    Enclose other important literature that you feel would help make the sale (picture, press releases, etc.), but refrain from sending a sample with this inquiry. Include your contact information, and indicate that you will follow up with a telephone call. Give the buyer at least a week before calling. If you have crafted your letter properly, they will call you!

  •    Be persistent!! If you don't get a positive response from one buyer, try another. Keep in mind that if you sell to one outlet, others may not want to then put it on their channel. This should only happen in cases where you are working with one of the big players. There are several options out there, make you best deal.

    If you find resistance, or you do not want to manage this task, then use a professional. Someone who "knows the ropes" and can pull strings to make things happen NOW. This is especially important while your commercials are selling strong in other mediums.
